You could hardly imagine a new innovation that would have as much if not more impact on our lives than the Internet and computers in general, yet there
is one innovation just waiting to be given the green light and its impact would be staggering.
I refer to the introduction of Airships to eventually replace almost all existing forms of transport (except perhaps bicycles for exercise and recreation)
Most roads throughout the industrialized countries have congestion due to many cars and trucks traveling along comparatively narrow roads and freeways.
Imagine if suddenly there were no cars and trucks on the roads - and commuters were traveling a short distance above the roads in small or relatively
large floating Airships !
All the roads would suddenly become tree lined pedestrian malls with provision for bike paths.
No need to build new freeways For those traveling in Airships - there would be no real congestion, no traffic lights and when it was appropriate to come
down to earth,
they could land anywhere, in driveways or even on roof tops which might have landing bays.
Consider the commercial Airship possibilities. All goods delivered by air to specific destinations .
In times of bush fires, the larger airships would be very helpful in carrying large quantities
of water to douse flames ( (many times greater water quantities
than is carried by large helicopters at the moment )
But also to transport large quantities of water to drought stricken villages or towns.
They would replace Jet aircraft which are pretty dangerous at times as these aircraft tend to crash every now and then if they have engine trouble or
whatever, while the Airships simply float to the ground whenever necessary.
Modern Airships are safe and on the bigger craft, they can be so spacious that on a long flight, passengers can walk around, enjoy the view,
or even play indoor sports.
And fuel costs might be quite low as we have the option of using various forms of water power.
Remember that the earliest trains were steam driven locomotives which could pull many heavily laden carriages .
Simply using steam power.
But steam is only one option.
The fuel that sends rocket ships to the Moon is basically Hydrogen burning in Oxygen, yet we are still talking about water, just a different use of the
components of water !
Water is a mixture of Hydrogen and Oxygen . With water power there are no
greenhouse gas emissions, and as even sea water can be used, it will
always be cheap and plentiful.
Oil might not be so necessary in this century.
Airships can be bigger than the biggest jetliner, or smaller than a very small car.
They all quietly float and can remain at any distance above the ground for long periods They can be fitted with radar and be programed to travel
at a certain height,
so collisions would be very rare. Perhaps never happening.
