At a conference recently there was general agreement that there is a serious need for affordable housing and it needs to happen soon.
Where local councils are concerned they have an obligation to help provide accommodation - even emergency housing. Some Councils have older sporting arenas, sections of which are easily converted into temporary accommodation.
The older arenas have everything. They have Water,electricity,gas, sewerage and an oval for children to play on safely.
Then of course there is a nice view of the oval from the residential portable units in the stands. Initially, I think we could put what might look like builder's offices as you see on building sites. But these would have large sliding glass doors and windows.
And if the idea proved unacceptable over a period of time - then the units could simply be loaded on trucks and carried away to a more appropriate site.
There should not be a problem with re zoning, as this might be more of a Council initiative than a commercial operation. The photo shows how glass fronted units could be sitting in the stands after some of the seats are taken out.
The existing grandstand roofs would keep rain off the portable units.
